Day 2 Report & Results
A busy night on the track at Manchester with four finals. Junior Matt Rotherham was super quick in the Kilometre beating endurance riders Steven Burke and Sam Harrison to the Gold medal. In the Women’s Pursuit, there were some seriously quick and world class times for an event that has been cut from the Olympics but is still a blue ribbon event for most who follow the sport. Winner was Joanna Rowsell from Laura Trott and Olympic Silver medallist Wendy Houvenaghel.
In the Paracycling Flying 200 metre title race, two World records fell. Jon-Allan Butterworth put in a scorching 200 metre time of 10.8 to take his second world record of the championships and his second title ahead of Helen Scott/Aileen McGlynn (11.4) who were the silver medallists and also rode a Paracycling World Record. Bronze for the second time in two days went to Barney Storey and Neil Fachie.
In the Men’s Points race, Team Sky professional Peter Kennaugh was simply too strong for a group of the Under 23 Academy riders who were battling for the minor placings. The silver medal eventually went to Welsh rider Jon Mould and the Bronze to the Isle of Man’s Mark Christian. Former World junior madison champion Simon Yates was fourth.
