Sportive: South West ‘Jurassic Classic’ launched by Prostate Cancer Charity

Building on the success and enormous support from the south-west region in 2009 the Prostate Cancer Charity will be returning to the area as it launches the ‘Jurassic Classic’, a scenic ride with a difference.

The event, which will take place on Sunday 8 July, offers cyclists of different abilities the opportunity to strengthen their buns of steel by cycling a circular route of either 100 kilometres or 100 miles along the picturesque Jurassic coastline in East Devon. Both routes will include some challenging climbs and deserving descents getting cyclists into gear.

Cyclists on the 100k challenge will pedal through several Devon villages, including Budleigh Salterton and Otterton, before heading inland at Sidmouth. Cyclists will then ride through the villages of Sidford, Sidbury, Honiton and the Otter Vale before reaching Woodbury Common, and heading back to the finish in Exmouth.

Entrants for the 100 mile ride will experience the first-class views of Beer, Seaton, Lyme Regis and Charmouth. From here, they will ride through stunning countryside via Axminster then freewheel back into Exmouth for the finish.
Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising, said: “We are extremely excited to announce the Wiggle Jurassic Classic 2012. The event is designed to fulfil the challenge needs of those with varying amounts of cycling experience. With a route set out along the Jurassic coastline we hope riders can enjoy the stunning scenery along the way and finish up at Exmouth Rugby Club to enjoy a celebratory drink with their supporters.”

“Every year 37,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and with one man dying every hour from the disease, we are urging cyclists to sign up, enjoy the day and support The Prostate Cancer Charity.”

Riders can enjoy the beautiful surroundings whilst taking on the distance most suited to them and with timings chips provided can record their efforts if interested. The ride will be fully signed, marshalled with well-stocked feed stations on route, and a medal awarded at the end.

The venue of the start and finish is Exmouth Rugby Club, Imperial Recreation Ground, Exmouth, Devon.

Families, friends and supporters are also welcome to join in on the day, with Exmouth Rugby Club and the local council organising a variety of entertainment, events and activities, its set to be a fun day for all.
