Three races promoted by the Welland Valley Cycling Club next Sunday for the over 40′s (LVRC)

The organiser Phil Rayner explained “This year we have an increase in numbers which goes to show the growing popularity of road racing amongst the more mature of us! You will see on the start sheet there are many “blasts from the past” including some ex pro’s and prolific winners from years gone by (some well gone by!). Last years winner of the over 40′s race Richard Barnett is back with a strong contingent from the Stone Wheelers but he will face tough opposition from the likes of Andy Eagers, ex milk race rider Mike Twelves and super sprinter Giles Pidcock amongst others.
Some people see LVRC events as an easy ride but just look at the names on the list and combine them with an undulating 10 mile circuit with a brute of a finishing hill and it will be a tough race!
HEADQUARTERS
Husbands Bosworth Sports Hall, open from 08.30
Directions: off junction 20 of the M1 (signposted Lutterworth), take the A4304 road to Market Harborough. Go through Walcote & North Kilworth. You’ll see the HQ on the right hand side as you enter Husbands Bosworth. There is ample parking on the field. There are showering facilities in the sports hall.
THE COURSE
Start approx. 1 mile from HQ – turn right out of HQ and take first left (A5199) just past The Bell Pub. Continue 1 mile until you get to a major pull in on the left for the start. Assemble there, off the main road. Race neutralised from start until junction with B 5414. Continue along A5199 to Shearsby crossroads.Turn left onto Bruntingthorpe rd. Take first left, signed Walton New Road, past Upper Bruntingthorpe, through Walton village GREAT CARE through village to turn left signed to Husbands Bosworth, bear left on exiting village. Proceed to junction with B5414 through finish at the top of the hill, then left to join A5199 to complete the lap.
RACES
Race 1 – for riders in A & B category, 45mls, 4.75 laps
Race 2 – for riders in C & D category, 45mls, 4.75 laps
Race 3 – for riders in E, F, G & H category, 36 mls, 3.75 laps
