HotChillee, London, 9th May 2012 – HotChillee, the cycling events company behind The London-Paris, The Alpine Challenge and The Cape Rouleur, today announces a record number of official teams – mainly from the corporate world – cycling The London-Paris on 21st to 24th June 2012. This surge confirms the proliferation of cycling in business.
This year over 125 corporates applied for 35 team slots; more than in any previous year. The teams come from a wide variety of sectors, including media, technology, FMCG and financial. The opportunity provides businesses with a good CSR and fundraising platform. It also delivers increased brand awareness, a stage for client engagement, product launches and new business. Some companies have used the team allocation to incentivise employees.
Teams participating this year include Adobe, ICAP, Tullett Prebon, Hogan Lovells, Moet & Chandon, DHL and Blackberry. The teams consist of four riders, who can ride within any of the seeded groups. The aggregate results for the top three riders in the yellow flagged sections are used to determine the team time. However, to qualify for The Best Team award, riders must all be in Group One for the duration.
Corporate involvement in such events is on the rise and the official team concept has significantly grown since the beginning of The London-Paris. There is great camaraderie between teams. Many of the teams stem from individual participants from previous years wanting to get more involved in the event and seeing its value-add as a business platform.
Steve Wiles, managing director of Cobia says, “The London-Paris 2011 was such a fantastic experience for the team that we felt The London-Paris 2012 was an opportunity we couldn’t miss. We were privileged to be riding with legends from many sporting backgrounds and were able to raise funds for our chosen charity at the same time. Cobia received some excellent exposure and we met some fascinating people along the way. The team is really looking forward to being part of The London-Paris experience again.”
Sven Thiele, founder of HotChillee says: “Many of our teams return year after year, bringing a keenness to combine business with cycling. Since 2008 we’ve seen a step-change in the UK’s cycling scene with more corporates getting involved. Our objective to provide intense, authentic sporting experiences with rigorous attention to safety and logistics, has seen our events grow from strength to strength – and the team concept has followed suit. The events provide the perfect business setting; many of our cyclists are successful business people. Indeed, we’ve seen deals done out in the peloton. HotChillee offers keen enthusiasts an experience close to that of The Tour de France, providing amateurs and professional cyclists alike, a fun and challenging event.”
