Raleigh-GAC’s Australian sprinter Bernie Sulzberger sprinted to a hard-fought second place in Kirkcaldy, Scotland on the opening night of the Halfords Tour Series.
Sulzberger was in the thick of the action right from the get-go on the 1.4km circuit race, picking up points in the intermediate sprints and making sure he was well placed by his Raleigh-GAC team mates for the final sprint to the line. As well as claiming a second place finish, Bernie also finished second in the sprints competition.
Raleigh-GAC finished with another three riders inside the top 15, which put us third in the overall team standings after the first race in the series.
The night ended on a sour note for US rider Daniel Holloway who took a tumble and rolled over the line cradling his elbow. A trip to hospital revealed only heavy bruising rather than any broken bones.
