The fourth annual Right To Play bike ride saw 130 riders cycle the 300 plus miles from Maastricht, Holland to Greenwich, London over 3 days. Right To Play pride themselves on delivering charity bike rides with a difference. Right To Play’s 2012 ride was launched by World Champion and Right To Play Athlete Ambassador Mark Cavendish and supported by leading bike manufacturer Specialized.

The event also included an extra day before starting the ride to watch the Prologue Stage of the Tour de France in Liege to allow riders to gather inspiration and tips from the pros. The first day of the ride saw Andy Fenn of Omega Pharma-Quickstep spend the day cycling with the riders giving them a unique experience of riding alongside a pro.

The final day provided riders with an option of their route back to London, the direct one or a longer one that included some of the Olympic Road Race route including Box Hill, adding that extra challenge for those who wanted it.

All riders returned to the beautiful setting of Queen Anne’s Court of the Old Royal Navy College at Greenwich University, which is located at the foot of Greenwich Park and right on the River Thames. Tired riders, including Right To Play Ambassador and TV presenter Tim Lovejoy, celebrated completing the ride with a barbecue and drinks accompanied by a jazz quartet and massages available to ease those aching muscles thanks to the masseurs from Cloud 9. “Congratulations to everybody who finished the Right To Play ride yesterday. A lot of money raised for a good cause. Enjoyed the first day!”

Andy Fenn, Omega Pharma-Quickstep rider. “Right To Play is set to raise over £120,000 from the ride, this money will go to supporting Right To Play’s vital work helping disadvantaged children around the world by using sport and play as a tool for development.”
