Held on a technical 8km circuit in the city of Torres Vedras and Iker, fourth in the Spanish Time Time Championships, scorched round in 11 minutes 29 seconds.
He now take a five second lead into Friday’s first road stage, a 100km circuit race on a 10km course around the city which lies some 50km north of Lisbon.
Zak Dempster was our next best placed rider in 12th at +24 seconds with Rene Mandri a couple of seconds further back in 26th.
Ian Bibby was unlucky to suffer a crash whilst heading for a top 20 finish.
Iker Camaño (above right): I’m very happy with this victory, particularly as it’s in a prologue and I’ve not won of those before, despite winning full time trials.”
“Everything went as planned this morning when we trained on the circuit. I’m looking forward to tomorrow in the leader’s jersey which will give the team and myself great motivation over the coming days.
Alex Sans Vega (Sporting Director): The prologue was a goal for us before we arrived here in Portugal. With a strong prologue, you can place a number of riders well in the overall classification and we had four riders in the top 20 and could have had Ian there too.”
“I’m especially happy for Iker he’s been close to a win, but for one reason or another it’s escaped him. He got it today and I’m sure it won’t be the last of the season.
