Fancy some climbing this weekend? Wheels in Wheels Events Ltd, organisers of several UK sportives including the Forest of Dean and also the Duva International in Mallorca, announce the re-run of the original event from April with a new course on Sunday 12th August 2012.

The Mega Monster sportive is a re-run of the original Wheels in Wheels event from April which was affected with the horrendous weather in the Peak District at the time. The organisers have laid on a new course which is longer and includes more climbing and the good news is that those who were affected during the original event get a generous discount to ride this event.

The event is based from Uttoxeter Racecourse in Staffordshire and has two routes through the picturesque Peak District of 102 miles and 76 miles. This is one for the climbers as the 102 mile route has over 7,500ft of climbing, while the shorter distance of 76 miles will also be a testing day out with nearly 5,000 feet of climbing.

Leaving the racecourse the climbing starts immediately as both courses head south for a loop taking in Mayfield and Stanton Bank before the routes split. The long route takes in five major big climbs including Ilam and Grindon before joining the shorter less hilly route again at Ashbourne. From here it’s a relatively flat profile until the real sting in the tail with five miles to go with the climb of Marchington Cliff before a flat ride back to the finish at Uttoxeter

Both routes will have the usual excellent back up structure from Wheels in Wheels Events and will be fully signposted, timed, have well stocked feed stations with Clif Bar energy products, full mechanical back en route as well as the start/finish, and a broom wagon should all else fail.

Sign on from 7:30am in the winner’s enclosure of Uttoxeter Racecourse with the long route starting at 8:30am and the short at 9:00am. Plenty of free car parking is available on site and all finishers receive a free meal on return.

Entry fees:
Long route £30.00 on the day
Short route £30.00 on the day

All the 2012 range of Shimano wheelsets from entry level to Dura Ace C50 deep sections will be available to test for free at the Ride to the Horns via a ballot system for entrants in the event. Just go to the event website www.wheelsinwheels.com and register your details for your chosen wheelset. Lucky riders will then be informed if they have wheels before the event. Qualified mechanics will be on hand to give advice on the wheels and change any cassettes over before the ride. Michelin are also supplying the latest Pro 4 tyres on all test wheels so you don’t have to change your tyres over either.
