Preview: GS Metro Hill Climb

Sunday 16th September see’s the start of the North East Hill Climb league with the GS Metro promoted climb of Hedley on the Hill at Stocksfield in Northumberland.

This is the first of 7 events in the north east of England in the run up to the national hill climb in October. Last year’s winner Karl Denton (Blumilk.com) returns to defend his title, though will be face a stiff challenge from last year’s defending league champion Ben Lane of the promoting club. Other names to look out for are local top roadmen Tom Timothy (Velo 29) and Ian Taylor (Adept Precison RT).

The prize fund is bolstered by sponsorship from North East based sports massage business MM Sports Massage which has allowed a goof prize fund for the junior riders to compete for. Luke Parkin looks to be the pick of the juniors though recent GHS 10 winner Joe Mann may push him close.

Course MH11
Start near the foot of the hill on the minor road leading to Hedley on the Hill. Opposite the electric pylon approx. 100 metres from the T-Junction of the minor New Ridley to Painshawfield road. Proceed up the hill for 1.1 miles to finish at the crest of the hill approx. 85 metres before the Hedley on the hill boundary signs.
Vehicles of competitors/officials/marshalls to be parked safely and without hindrance to other road users.

Keep to the left of the road when ascending the hill and especially on right hand bends. Take care descending to the start as there are some steep sections and poor surface in some instances.

Event HQ: The Feathers Inn at Hedley on the Hill have kindly agreed use of the car park. The restaurant/bar should also be open to purchase refreshments.
