News: Corporate Sponsor wanted for Bedford-2-Day

A long running classic among Women’s racing in Britain, the Bedford-2-Day, is benefiting from extra money being donated should a corporate sponsor be found

An anonymous backer has come forward and offered to match the first £2,000 of corporate sponsorship for the 2013 edition of the Bedford 2 Day women’s road race. The organisers of the race are looking to provide a leading promotion in 2013 and also the ability to increase its media reach and return as well as increase its prize fund for the race.

“This backing would allow us to make this a women’s cycling weekend and replace our traditional men’s support race with a Women’s development race on the closed circuit course at Millbrook test track. This we hope will send out a strong message that women’s cycling is developing fast and that we are here to try to meet the needs of the increasing fields in women’s racing” commented event co-promoter Stefan Wyman

“So if a corporate sponsor comes along now and can offer us up to £2k, they are effectively adding £4k to the pot and will receive the benefit of title sponsorship of the event. I’m not sure there is better deal going at the moment anywhere in racing”

One partnership already confirmed is the Bike Pure Junior competition. The winner and leader of the junior event will be presented with a Bike Pure sponsored jersey. “We feel at this turbulent time in cycling, this sends out a really strong message and will hopefully confirm the feelings of everyone involved in the race that there is no place in cycling for doping. We’d like to thank Andy at Bike Pure for giving us the opportunity to make this statement with the Junior Jersey”

We hope to use the huge support that has arisen for the sport over recent years to ensure we have a great crowd at the end to help on the back holiday weekend at the start of May. We hope to involve the community of people backing #FanBackedWomensCycling to show how together we can boost the sport and provide something very positive for the future of women’s cycling.
