News: RTTC Championship Hill Climb

Jack Pullar to return to defend his British Hill Climb title on October 27 at the championship near Richmond in North Yorkshire

The British RTTC Hill Climb Championship is only weeks away and back to defend his title will be Jack Pullar on the Stang lane climb which is over two miles long with a gradient that at its steepest is 18 per cent.

The roadman’s climb will see Pullar up against a rider who showed in the Tour of Britain he can climb with the very best in the world, Richard Handley, who has come close to winning this title in recent years. The longer climb may well suit Handley who did so well in the Tour of Britain against the likes of Dan Martin and Columbian Nairo Quintana. His teammate Mike Cuming rides as well as do a number of former winners such as James Dobbin and Matt Clinton.

Other contenders include Tejvan Pettinger and James Gullen whilst Pete Tadros is just one favourite of many for the Vets title. In the race for the Women’s title, Lynn Hamel will again be a firm favourite as will the likes Maryka Sennema of Kingston Wheelers CC.

First rider off ay 12.01

Course: Start on unclassified road Stang Lane that runs from Langthwaithe towards Barnard Castle. The start is opposite Nothern gate post of entrance to field situated on the East side of unclassified road Stang Lane, leading to Barnard Castle, approximatle 100 meters North from Eskeleth Bridge, and just past the turning on the left of the road to Eskeleth. From the start continue North Easterly up the hill to finish at Southern tip of layby identified by the County Durham and Welcome to Teesdale sign at the county boundary on the crest of the hill.

Distance 2.33 miles, height at top 771 feet, 833 feet of climbing, 6.83% average gradient, steepest gradient 18%.
