Team News – Haribo Beacon’s Levi Moody

After completing Saturday’s 7.9km prologue Levi was cooling down on the rollers when he collapsed and required emergency first aid, suffering from a series of 5 cardiac arrests. CPR was delivered until an ambulance arrived at the scene and a defribillator was used to resuscitate him, before being transported to Hasselt Hospital, Belgium.

levi_moody_profileThe 18 year old rider from Halifax, who will undergo further monitoring in Belgium, has been joined by family and will be repatriated to St James’ hospital in Leeds later his week. Levi had returned to racing within the last month after illness during the off season and placed 2nd in the Trefeo Montuiri in Mallorca before helping the team to their first two victories in the British National Junior Series.

We would like to extend sincere thanks to acting HARIBO Beacon DS, Matt Jones and the race medics who acted quickly in the situation to provide emergency CPR. And also the race organisation have also been extremely supportive of the team competing overseas. Levi is know fully conscious and extends his appreciation for the messages of support received.

The remaining 5 riders completed the prologue and continue in the race with todays 130km stage ahead of the 3rd and final stage tomorrow over 120km. We will update further rider progress here as appropriate.
