Past members of the club include multi-gold medalist Bradley Wiggins; Commonwealth Games Champion Steve Heffernan; over a dozen national champions, most of having represented GB; plus many likewise Australian members when over here; and even a USA national bronze medalist. The club’s classic Archer Grand Prix held in the Chilterns for over 50 years was virtually the top event in the country until lack of sponsorship brought the end.

Pic: The jerseys arrived from Le Col in Italy only three days before the event on a quick turn around from the placing of the order. Alas, they became very wet indeed in the torrential rain, but still looked resplendent and admired for this photograph taken in front of Buckingham Palace with Tiffany in the centre and Stewart on the left.

Tiffany Walker, of Chesham Bois and Stewart Hadley of Bovingdon, linked with the club some years ago when they covered a 100-mile route in an Archer organised event. Since then they have ridden many tough challenge rides as individuals as is often the case with these events.

Tiffany and Stewart decided earlier this year that such a club should be revived from its current position with few active members and that they and their friends would be proud to wear the famous retro-design black/white/yellow race jersey.

This grew into having two teams among the 24,000 participants in the Ride London event, plus some individuals who had been fortunate in the ballot for places. The teams were possible through another ballot for registered clubs which, of course, includes the Archer RC which was formed in 1926, long before the formation of the current British Cycling governing body.

Tiffany and Stewart now look to take the club forward with a programme of club runs that is already up and running plus coordinating entries to challenge rides both here and Continental Europe. Potential members are welcome to e-mail: archerrc@outlook.com
