At the Cycle Show (NEC Birmingham) Ian Field showed why he is the current men’s national champion with an impressive win in front of a very vocal crowd.

Ben Sumner sprinted off from the line and led the race for a few laps, with a chasing group of Jody Crawforth and Ian Field (both Hargroves Cycles RT). On lap five, Jody applied the pressure and overtook Ben to take the lead and as we were waiting for them to come around again on the next lap, we saw that Ben must have had a crash in the woods and lost position and was now featuring way back in the field.

With Jody and Ian poised in first and second, with five laps to go, Ian found another gear, over taking Jody and commanded a lead of about 50 yards. Over the last few laps the crowd was really behind Ian who really executed a text book race win with Jody coming in 2nd. Frenchman Matthieu Boulo was third.

“The first race of the season at the NEC Cycle show went really well, with lots of new sponsors on board with the team it was great to pin a number on and test all the new equipment and kit in a race” Ian explained. “Everything performed really well and the race went to plan with Hargroves RT taking a 1-2”.

“The new Ridley bikes were fantastic, handling the tricky tight circuit really well allowing me to make a gap on my competitors with 5 laps remaining of the 17 lap race. I felt good considering it was my first race of the season and hopefully this is a sign of things to come for myself and the team. I am now looking forward to tackling the World’s best when the World Cup series kicks off in 3 weeks time.”
