Bicycle ‘Superbrand’ expands its UK portfolio
Like Raleigh, the Dutch-based KOGA brand is part of the Accell Group and is well-known for designing and manufacturing a range of high quality bicycles. The move pushes Raleigh’s portfolio of distributed brands to more than 50, with KOGA joining a plethora of accessory brands, including household names such as SRAM and JVC, and bicycle brands including Diamondback, Dahon and Haibike.
Raleigh Managing Director Mark Gouldthorp said “KOGA is the latest in the line of exciting brands to join our portfolio in the last 12 months. This move allows us to increase the number of bike shops we supply and in turn gives more choice to consumers who shop at Raleigh stockists around the UK. By adding KOGA, another Accell brand, to sit alongside Raleigh, Diamondback, Haibike and Dahon we are bringing in another premium bicycle brand that’s long been in demand by the UK cyclist.”
Raleigh will be distributing the full line up of KOGA models including the E-bike, Race, MTB, Touring, Trekking and Comfort models which range from £899 to £2,999.
Who are Koga?
Formed in 1974, KOGA’s reputation for quality is founded on hand-building all its bicycles at the company’s premises in Heerenveen, Netherlands. KOGA offers an uncompromising guarantee of quality. A single technician is responsible for the full assembly of each bike, resulting in perfection down to the finest detail. The ‘Hand built by KOGA’ logo on the frame is the guarantee of this unique working practice.
The company has long been a supporter of Dutch cycling in all shapes and forms, developing innovative bicycles and accessories and supplying professional riders and Dutch national cycling teams for many years. The KOGA product range has gained prominence in the UK in recent years through its touring range and more recently through its electric bike offering.
Koga e-bikes
KOGA e-bikes use either the Bosch system or the ION system; the latter allows customers to choose their battery size depending on riding style, terrain and range distance. KOGA also makes use of the Nuvinci hub gear system, which allows an infinitely adjustable gear system for automatic and stepless gear changes, providing another high-tech solution for the UK’s growing e-bike market.
What does this mean for Raleigh?
The addition of KOGA to the Raleigh product portfolio further strengthens the range of brands the company can offer to the UK cycle trade. Furthermore, with urban/leisure electric bikes available from Raleigh, e-MTBs available from Haibike and now KOGA hand-crafted electric bikes, Raleigh becomes the UK’s premier electric bike distributor.
Talking about KOGA’s electric bike range, Gouldthorp added: “This news is particularly exciting for the UK’s electric bike dealers. With three electric bike brands available through Raleigh we’re able to offer the widest choice of electric bikes in the UK.”
KOGA products will be on display at Raleigh’s head office from 1st November 2014.
