After a fantastic two seasons that saw multiple victories and impressive performances in the of cycling, Madison Genesis are now proud to announce seven new signings to the team roster. Staying put are riders who have made themselves household names in the World of cycling here in Britain.

Riders like Tom Stewart who was part of that epic break in the Tour of Britain with top pros Alex Dowsett and new Hour Record holder Matthias Brandle. Tom was third on that stage and he firmly established himself on both the UK and international circuit with a fantastic season with Madison Genesis. That also included winning two rounds of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series and a top ten in the National Road Race Championships. “The 2014 season with Madison Genesis has been just fantastic” Tom explained from New Zealand. “The set up in the team is perfect. We get the best support and enjoy ourselves along the way so for me, the decision to stay was pretty simple. I think the team is progressing at a great rate which suits me and my ambitions. With a super strong team for 2015 we’ll be looking to continue along that momentum”.

Or Tom Scully who has had such success on British roads and Mike Northey who’s won in Britain and Europe. These three along with Tobyn Horton, Liam Holohan, Matt Holmes, Dom Jelfs, remain in the Madison Genesis colours for 2015. They will be joined by seven new riders and lots of familair names.

Tobyn Horton who excels in the Tour Series as well as in the longer road races says of another year at Madison Genesis “I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in with a strengthened team for 2015 who will bring with them plenty of experience with many having raced on the continent over the past few years.”

One of those ‘imports’ from Europe is the The King of the Mountains in the 2014 Tour of Britain, Mark McNally, who showed such guts to keep scoring points every day until the title jersey was his. A former Under 23 European Track Champion, Mark has been forging his career on the road in Belgium for the last five years, with huge amounts of success. A versatile rider, Mark was part of a Tour Series winning team in the UK before heading off to Europe and winning the overall of La Mi-août En Bretagne.

Erick Rowsell returns home after two seasons with Netapp-Endura. One of the most accomplished juniors of his generation, winning both the Junior National Time Trial and Road Race (2007 and 2008), Erick confirmed that promise by winning a stage of the Tour of Normandie as a professional. His tactical nous and experience makes Erick a great addition to the team.

“I am really looking forward to joining Madison Genesis” Erick explained. “I think it will be a very good team next year and a great environment to be in. From what I have seen and heard it looks like a very well run team that also has a lot of fun so it was something that I wanted to be a part of.”

“In terms of the racing, I am not yet sure about the program but I am looking forward to getting stuck into what ever we do and getting back to winning ways and showing what I can do, a bit like I did in 2012 but even more so. Even though I still consider myself a young rider, I think I can bring a lot of experience to the team with things I have learnt over the last couple of years. I’m very much looking forward to 2015 and working with everyone involved in the Madison Genesis team”.

Northern Ireland’s Martyn Irvine is another big signing. Martyn is a hugely versatile rider, steadily building his reputation as a world class cyclist on both the track and the road. A World scratch race title in 2013 was confirmation of his quality. That quality has also translated to the road and he’s a former multi-Irish criterium champion.

The team have also clinched the British Junior Road Race Champion Tristan Robbins. Tristan won both the National Junior Road Race and Points Race this year. Despite his tender years, he recently finished a highly commendable fourth in the Points Race at the Open National Championship Points as well.

He says of the opportunity to ride with one of the country’s top teams, “I’m really excited to be joining Madison Genesis for the 2015 season. It’s a big step up but I’m looking forward to making the most of the opportunity. Riding under Roger Hammond will provide a brilliant building block on which to develop my career as a bike rider”.

Another new signing is James Mclaughlin who had a breakthrough year in 2014 by finishing tenth in the Commonwealth Games Individual Time Trial. That made him the highest placed non-world tour rider in that event – a testament to his ability to time trial. With a power to weight ratio equivalent to the best in the world, James is an exciting prospect when the road goes up.

The team manager Roger Hammond had this to say in the press release “The 2014 racing season was a great success for the team and I feel the transfer season was a continuation of that. I am really pleased the successful core of this year’s team is returning again next year, ensuring we already had a very firm foundation with which to build the team. With the variety of the new riders coming to the team, from National Junior champions through to international race winners, I couldn’t have hoped for a better line up to go into battle with next year. It going to be exciting!”

Martyn Irvine
James Mclaughlin
Mark McNally
Tristan Robbins
Erick Rowsell
Tom Stewart

Mike Northey: Mike has been the corner stone of the team this past year. Equally effective in the Tour of Britain and criteriums, the versatile New Zealander’s positive outlook has seen him win at Beverly and podium in the classic Lincoln Grand Prix.

Tom Scully: Tom returns for his second year with Madison Genesis after a hugely successful 2014 which saw him win the Commonwealth Games Points race. The formidable Kiwi is accomplished at winning races alone and in bunch sprints and will once again bring a huge amount of firepower to the team.

Matt Holmes: Returning for his second year with the team, Matt more than earned his place with a very solid 2014 despite several setbacks early on, including being run over the day before his first international appearance with the team. His never-say-die attitude ensured he regained full fitness and was a reliable teammate.

Liam Holohan: Liam is returning for the third year to the Madison Genesis team. The coffee obsessed climber has had a very good 2014 season, winning a stage of the UCI categorised An Post Rás in Ireland and followed that up with a very creditable eleventh place in the National Road Race Championships.

Tobyn Horton: Despite an illness stricken 2014, fast finisher Tobyn was a consistent performer in criteriums in the UK, winning both the Canary Wharf stage of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series and the London Nocturne.

Dom Jelfs: A member of the inaugural Madison Genesis team, Dom has been a valued member ever since. Despite an illness stricken 2014, Dom finished a very respectful sixth in the National Irish Road Race Championships. Now recovered, 2015 should see Dom back as one of the strongest riders in the UK peloton.

Joe Evans: A National Junior Time Trial Champion in 2013, Joe attracted the attention of the national team for 2014 which saw him win the Isle of Man Junior Tour plus medalling in both the Team Pursuit and Madison at the European Championships. At just 19 years old Joe will be one of the youngest riders in the team.

Matt Cronshaw: Matt joins the team after a strong 2014 season during which he was one of the most consistent riders throughout the year. Matt’s attacking and aggressive style of racing will make him a valuable asset for Madison Genesis in 2015.

The riders will have both the Genesis Zero Team and Genesis Volare Team bikes in the stable to race on and will be using both depending on race demands. They will also be wearing Lazer helmets and Madison Clothing apparel. The full team will be presented along with the new team kit and 2015 season plans at iceBike* trade show, hosted by Madison and Sportline in February.

Of the riders from 2014 not in the 2015 line up, Alex Peters has signed for SEG Racing in Holland and Scott Davies is part of the GB Academy. Ian Bibby is believed to have been signed by another team yet to announce their line up, Andy Tennant set to join the new Bradley Wiggins development team
