There are lots of local names in the first European race of 2015 at Challenge Majorca; Trofeo Santanyí-Ses Salines-Campos (UCI 1.1) which is over 175 kilometres and includes five fourth category climbs.

The Challenge Mallorca is a long running event, a staple event on the racing calendar well before all the other races that are now held around now. It’s made up of four races and on an island where many of the pro teams have had their training camps.

In this years event, the Great Britain ‘track’ team are riding with Olympic Champion Ed Clancy among the riders in the national strip. Others include Pearl Izumi Tour Series round winner Matt Gibson, the youngest rider in the race, Jon Dibben, Owain Doull, Andy Tennant, Chris Latham, Oli Wood and Mark Christian.

They’ll be joined on the start line by a selection of road riders such as Russell Downing in his new colours for Cult Energy Pro. A former winner at Challenge Majorca, Andy Fenn rides for Sky and teammate Ben Swift who has podiumed in Challenge Mallorca events and was famously third in Milan San Remo in 2014.

Other familair faces to British fans include Scott Thwaites, Dan Martin, Dan Craven, Zak Dempster, and Hugh Carthy (former Rapha rider now with Caja Rural). They’ll be competing with the stars of the cycling world looking to gain some form for the coming sprint classics. Stars like Fabian Cancellera, Alejandro Valverde, Andre Greipel, Nacer Bounhanni, Theo Bos and Gerald Ciolek.
