News – Riders for Good Friday Open

An Ambassador for the Good Friday Meeting, Clancy was visiting Chobham Academy, where he met pupils of ‘Ed Clancy House’, named in his honour after the London 2012 Olympic Games. The school is on the site of the Athletes’ Village on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, where Ed stayed when he won Gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Ed commented: “It’s great being back at the Olympic Park to meet young people who are still being inspired by Team GB’s achievements. It’s mad to think that the children are in ‘Ed Clancy House’; I would’ve loved to be in ‘Chris Boardman House’ when I was a lad at school!

“The London 2012 Olympics made such a difference to young people’s perception and awareness of the sport and that’s why family events, like The Good Friday Meeting, are so important to keep the next generation interested in cycling, so that we can create even more British Olympic Champions in the future”.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back racing in the Olympic venue, which holds so many great memories for me, and I’m hoping to make some more but it’s looking like a decent field is starting to emerge, so I won’t get it all my own way!”

The list of riders confirmed to compete at this year’s event so far, include:
— Andy Tennant (GB) World and European Champion
— Leif Lampater (Germany) Golden Wheel winner 2014
— Marcel Kalz (Germany) Golden Wheel winner 2012
— Adam Duggleby (GB) Golden Wheel winner 2011
— Nico Hesslich (Germany) Six-day rider
— Christian Grasmann (Germany) Six-day rider
— Nolan Hofmann (South Africa) Six-day rider, World Silver medallist 2012
— Manuel Cazzaro (Italy) Six-day rider

With a history going back over 110 years, The Good Friday Meeting is still one of the most iconic open track cycling events in the calendar, whilst also providing a fun, family-friendly event, for those looking for some top entertainment over the Easter weekend.

Over the years, The Good Friday Meeting has showcased some of the world’s best riders, including global super-stars Michael Hubner, Florian Rousseau, Arnaud Tournant, Graeme Obree, Stuart O’Grady and Jason Queally making guest appearances.
