Entries are now open for all of the events during the 4 day festival of cycling at the British Road Championships at Lincoln
News – Entries Open for Lincoln Champs
Just 15 weeks now before the biggest ever sports event comes to Lincolnshire and the organisation is now well on its way to making this a spectacle to be remembered. Entries are now open for all the events during this 4 day festival of cycling via links on the event web site www.nationalroadchamps.co.uk
These all close on June 2nd in order to produce the 48 page colour souvenir programme.
The Championship Time Trials on Thursday June 25th will be held to the east of the county in the Lincolnshire Wolds and based on the picturesque Cadwell Park Motor Racing Circuit. The circuit features sharp changes in gradient, including one section called The Mountain where motorbikes can become airborne by up to several feet. Its mix of eleven challenging corners has led to its nickname as the Mini-Nurburgring. The circuit regularly holds a round of the British Superbike series and has many car test days fitted in amongst a host of other motorbike events.
The riders in the British Time Trial Championships will start in the pit lane and complete almost a lap of the circuit and leave after the mountain climb out on to a closed roads country circuit using the Bluestone Heath Road crossing the top of the Lincolnshire Wolds and passing through the village of Ruckland via a long descent and a double bend before a testing climb out of the village.
Ruckland is sited on the Greenwich Meridian line and the riders will cross this twice as they switch from left to right and back again through the village. This is part of a 7 mile circuit which the women and under 23 men will cover twice and the elite men three times before heading back to Cadwell to finish on the motor racing finish line for total distances of 21 and 28 miles.
There will also be supporting events at Cadwell Park starting at 9 am prior to the time trial championships. There will be also further support for the events and the appointment of Impsport as the official souvenir merchandise outlet as well as the supplier of promotion equipment and volunteers clothing. Impsport will have a presence at each of the disciplines throughout the 4 days of the championship events where they will offer souvenir t-shirts, hoodies and cycling kit for sale.
County wide solicitors Ringrose Law are another company aiming to have a high profile at the championships. Support will also be given both financially and logistically by Lincolnshire County Council, The City of Lincoln Council, East Lindsey District Council and West Lindsey District Council. All four authorities are fully supportive of the events taking place in their areas with the time trials opening the championships on June 25th in East Lindsey’s Lincolnshire Wolds and the Cadwell Park motor racing circuit.
The road races on June 28th are based on the well known Lincoln Grand Prix circuit with opening loops taking the riders out of the City through the West Lindsey areas before returning to Lincoln to complete finishing laps of the 8 mile Grand Prix circuit.
Spectator tickets for the time trial championships at Cadwell Park on Thursday June 25th are now on sale. This is a great venue where the riders will be seen four times including the start and finish and twice up The Mountain. Grandstand tickets for Saturday and Sunday at the finish line in Lincoln’s Castle Square are also on sale but hurry as there are not a lot remaining.
Hospitality packages for the Road Race Championships are also now available. These will be based in the grounds of Lincoln Castle with a big marquee on site. The packages will offer a breakfast bites selection with Tea and Coffee available all day. A hot lunch with a Hog Roast with a veggie alternative will be served from 1 pm to 3 pm and a big TV screen will keep everybody up to date with the championships as they circulate Lincoln during the closing hours of the event. A pay bar will also be located in the marquee. The package will include access to a reserved area near to the finish line.
Expo sites are also bookable on the web site with places in the Castle Grounds, St Pauls Lane and Westgate. The latter will have Europe’s largest outdoor LED screen also showing the closing stages of the championships and will be a great area for spectators to gather. There will also be food and drink available plus temporary toilet facilities.
There are also some sponsorship packages available for the championships, full details are again on the web site.
