News – Matt Bottrill in Winning Form

Bottrill takes National tt series Rd 1
Sunday afternoon saw the RTTC Classic time trial series get underway in the small village of Weston in Staffordshire. The course took in the villages of Weston and Great Haywood and finished back in the village of Weston. It was a great day for riding and the weather was ideal with just a slight cold wind but the sun was out, but the air pressure was high meaning the course would be running slow!

The time’s started coming in and it was clear it was not going to be the fastest of days but young Josh Williams of Revolutions Racing set the ball rolling with a very impressive 47:32. The riders came in one by one and it was former National Hill champion Tejvan Pettinger (Sri Chinmoy Cycling Team) who would get closest to Williams time but it was not quite enough with 47:39

Last man to start would be defending series leader and course record holder Matthew Bottrill of drag2zero.com. Starting at 13:20, Bottrill, was soon up to speed and on a mission to set a new course record but it was going to be a really hard task.

Never one for quitting, Bottrill was doing everything possible to break his course record. It was going to be a tough task and every ounce of energy would be needed and it proved to be so close! Bottrill stopped the cloak with just one second to spare! His time of 45:54 meant it was win number 4 with his fourth course record in 2015 as well.

Bottrill after the finish explained “I felt great today and gave it everything I had. I could see it was going to be touch and go to break the record then in the last few miles it was hell but it felt good to win. I’m more pleased with the times of my riders. I also coach Josh, who took 2nd & Charles Taylor 4th so it really was a great day out”.

What is left for Mr Bottrill to do this season after his last couple of Championship winning years. Are there any more new challengers for our favourite postman. “Well I think I can improve on the `25` record if everything falls in to place on the right course on the right day and I’m thinking off riding a `100` and improving that competition record and eventually I would like to have a go at Trithlons,” Bottrill said.
