EVENT PRESS RELEASE

Sponsored by Stan’s Cycles of Shrewsbury, the Paramount Cycling Racing Team Spring Road race will be held on April 13 in Leighton. Organisers are hoping for a record turnout of competitors, including national riders, to mark the race’s 20th anniversary.

Ben Lawrence, racing team manager for Paramount CRT and race organiser, said: “The club has been successfully hosting the Spring Road Race for many years and with this being our 20th we would hope for a record number of riders to mark the occasion.”

“With cycling being more popular than ever in Shropshire we are already seeing a lot of interest from local riders and clubs which is fantastic. National riders are also expressing interest and asking for details so I think it is going to be a pretty good line up.”

The race, a 60-mile course, is a Regional A race starting and finishing at the village hall in Leighton. It will be led by motorcycle escorts from the National Escort Group. Last year the event attracted 80 competitors and the race was won by Daniel Watts from the Royal Air Force Cycling Club.”

“Last year’s race was really interesting to watch. It attracted a number of young riders, all of whom were very skilled,” said Mr Lawrence, managing director of Beaumont Lawrence.

“They were very impressive to watch so I hope we will see some more young racers at this year’s event.” On May 31, Paramount CRT will also hold the Shrewsbury Cycle Grand Prix with top class racers from across the UK.
