Raleigh 3rd in Totnes Vire after Day 1

By Joey Severn – Saturday, March 28
Karol_RaleighTeam Raleigh GAC’s Karol Domagalski from Poland is currently third in the general classification at the Totnes Vire. The rider who raced the Tour of Spain last year and has been racing at ProConti level for a few years had a good day on the bike in Totnes for his new team.

The opening stage of the two day race took place on a rolling 10 mile course that the riders lapped five times. Karol was part of a group of around 10 riders who went away from the main bunch and that number was whittled down to four on the final lap.

While the Polish rider was beaten to the finish line he went on to take the yellow jersey after he picking up three primes, each worth five seconds, giving him the the overall lead.

A quick drive to Paignton for the second stage saw the riders take on a 35 mile criterium at the Torbay Velopark. For much of the race Robert Moore of Pedal Heaven (with James Lewis of NFTO early on), was off the front but was caught in the final lap. The race came together and a bunch sprint saw Raleigh GAC’s World Champion (Madison) Morgan Kneisky take fourth.

Karol currently sits in third place overall with Morgan in fifth and Steve Lampier in joint sixth.

Sunday’s stage will see some hard climbs in its 72 mile route that sees the riders roll out of Bovey Tracey at 10.30am and finish around three hours later at Haytor Rocks although the organiser has said if visiblity is poor, the course ending may change which will affect the fight for the GC.
