News – Velo29-Altura Buttertubs Sportive

As the name suggests, the ride takes in the Buttertubs climb although not riding the direction the Tour went up! The event starts from Croft Motor Circuit, just off the A1 and rides out through Richmond towards Leyburn. The roads are quite simply stunning and the ride out of Richmond into Swaledale is one of the best pieces of road in this lovely area. If you don’t know the area it’s worth a look.

The route is not the most challenging which was the intention of Velo29. “We wanted to explore the area as much as possible without sending it up every hill” commented Event Director Richard Williamson. “Riders want to enjoy the area, see this great scenery and climb the Buttertubs. We’ve gone the opposite way to the TDF as we feel it’s a nicer ride and more exciting descent”.

The event will take place on the 16th May and there are three route choices, 90, 60 and 30 miles. The 30 is aimed at the true beginner with minimal climbing and never too far from HQ. A great place to start Sportive Riding.

Entry is from £15 which for a really well supported Chip Timed Event is brilliant value.
