Result – WCA 25 Welsh Championship

On a drizzly day with some sharp showers which did not favour the fine weather brigade nevertheless there were some fine rides done. Quicksilver fast Kieron Davies Team NBCC defended his Welsh Champion 25 crown with what was a comfortable win and added to the tally of the Year’s Fastest 25 times.

This was slightly slower than last week’s 47:19 done on the same course; ‘ the win of the Welsh Championship was more important to me than the time’ said Jones as he was presented with the Welsh Champion’s Cap.

Ben Anstie 73 Degrees Bicycles was runner up with a credible 48:10 while Cardiff Ajax’s fast roadman turned faster time triallist Ioan Smallwood with 49:58 completed the podium positions. John Dewey Dorking CC was well pleased with a 2:23 improvement to take 4th spot with a 50:04.

The Women’s Championship was won by Joanna Knight Bristol South CC with a 1:01:03 from Andrea Parish who was 3 seconds up at the turn but faded slightly on the short return leg to finish in 1:01:15. There was just one Junior in the Championship but Josh Griffiths Bristol South CC bashed out a massive 6:12 improvement with a time of 1:02:35 which almost won the ‘best improvement’ prize: that went to Brad Davies Bynea CC who was all smiles to find a 6:26 improvement.

The Overflow event was won by Jason Streather VC St Raphael who did not have a good enough time to get into the Championship at the closing date. He was said to be ‘a bit disappointed’ by ‘only’ doing a 55:11: I was hoping for a ‘53’
