Team News – One Pro Tour Series Victory

ONE Pro Cycling continued their winning streak last night by taking the team honours in Peterborough to equal Madison Genesis on points in the overall competition and go into the leaders jerseys.

The result went down to count back where ONE Pro Cycling have taken seven victories to Madison Genesis’ four.

It was a nervous round with the two teams matching each other throughout the race. A break-away group of seven riders containing ONE Pro Cycling’s Yanto Barker and Madison’s Tobyn Horton escaped the peloton in the closing stages but the eventual win was taken by JLT Condor’s Ed Clancy. Ed now takes his tally to eight to extend his rank as the most successful rider in the series.

The remaining four riders from each team were left to contest the sprint for valuable placings. ONE Pro Cycling crossed the line in 4th, 8th, 10th, 12th and 16th winning the team round by two seconds.

Jon Mould, who recovered well from a crash at the weekend in the London Nocture, said to VeloUK afterwards “It’s all square now and it’s the best team in Bath wins so it will be a nervous and hard round in Bath across the cobbles. The pressure is the same for us and Madison (Genesis) and it’s hard racing. One mistake from any of us can cost the whole team and that makes it a tough ask but we’ll just get stuck in.”

Talking about the sprint which is like no other because all five riders are sprinting to stay together and finish as high up as possible to get the fastest time, Jon explaines “You can’t risk a lead out man because he could then get shelled and five guys get round him, so it is tough one.”

“Madison got us in Barrow with the right line and we got it today and it can be a bit of a lottery.” Talking about the last lap at Peterborough, Jon explained Scully (Madison Genesis) was leading it out down the back straight, and then I went round him going into the final two corners. I looked behind, saw Marcin (Bialoblocki) was on my wheel and so I went and Marcin then got round me and Macca (Mark McNally, Madison Genesis) too. I looked behind and could see Pete and Josh too but it was just chaos.”

When I put it to Jon that with there being so much riding on this last round in Bath with the teams (One Pro Cycling & Madison Genesis) equal on points, winning will be just that bit sweeter? “I think so. Either us or Madison deserve it and it’s been a long series and to go down to the last round is tough. It will be an exciting race Thursday!”

It’s the closest ever finale to the Tour Series and Bath will play host to the final round on Thursday evening. Highlights from Peterborough will be shown on ITV4 at 8pm on Wednesday 10 June, with a repeat at 0910 on Thursday 11 June.
