Mullen’s performances over the last number of seasons have earmarked him for stardom, with many top tier teams standing up to take notice. At such a young age, his roll of accomplishments include national titles on the road and in the time trial, finishing sixth in the U23 Nations Cup ZLM followed by second place at the World Time Trial Championships.

Ryan says of the move, “I have loved riding for the An Post team and they’ve been so supportive of me. Kurt (Bogaerts)and the other riders have helped me develop into the rider I am so I have a lot to thank them for. I still have a lot more years to develop into the rider I want to be but this is the next step in my career and it’s always been a dream of mine to ride on the World Tour so I’m looking forward to it.”

This season so far, Mullen has shown his great consistency by finishing eighth in the European Time Trials in Baku, and third overall in An Post Rás, as well as winning the U23 classification.

An Post Team manager, Kurt Bogaerts, is thrilled that Mullen has got the rewards for his hard work and knows only too well the potential he possesses. “I’m delighted for him that a top team like Cannondale – Garmin have picked him up. He has shown huge potential in his performances for the past two seasons, which has been reflected in the super results he has achieved, so it’s no surprise to us. It is a great move for him and we wish him the very best”.

“He has star quality and we were delighted to be able to help him on his journey. Hopefully he has gained valuable experience with us the past two seasons.”

Hailed as one of the top young time trialists in the world, Mullen made history in 2014 when he became the youngest rider ever to win Ireland’s elite national road and TT championships. Last September, at just 20 years old, he took second at the U23 men’s TT worlds, narrowly missing the title by less than half a second. “Ryan is one of the best, if not the best, up and coming TT talents in the world,” said Vaughters. “It will be exciting to see how he progresses as a rider.”

Mullen added: “For me, Cannondale-Garmin is the perfect learning environment. They have a wealth of experience between riders and staff and working with them, I will hopefully make big steps forward over the coming seasons.”

The young rider will finish this season with An Post including the Tour of Britain and several Belgian one day races. He will also take part in upcoming races in September on behalf of Cannondale-Garmin as a stagiaire.
