Team News – World champion for JLT Condor

Another of the exciting signings is World Team Pursuit champion Alex Frame who joins British rival on the track, Ed Clancy, in the same trade team.

The 22 year old is from New Zealand and has ridden in Europe with two teams, Thüringer Energie (Germany 2013) and in 2014, Swedish team Development Team Giant-Shimano. The Kiwi rode the Irish RAS this year as well finishing third behind countryman Aron Gate in the Points competition and eighth overall.

For a young rider, Alex has a lot of experience on the road and track at the highest level and when asked how he came to know John Herety, his sense of humour is easy to see. “I think my first encounter with John was me swearing at every convoy car (including him) as I was chasing back on to the bunch after a crash in the last 5kms of a stage in the Tour of Ireland (RAS).

His endurance coach in the New Zealand team, Tim Carswell, introduced Alex to John at the RAS. “Since then John and I have been in contact” Alex added. “We have been working out a plan to use JLT Condor and all the positives from the set up to help me not only race well with the team but also set a smooth build up to the Rio Olympics”.

“Everything about British setup is very exciting and from what I have seen, they are an extremely well set up team.”

Next season will be a momentous one for Alex and all the riders looking to go to Rio for the Olympics. Asked what his goals are, he says “My first race with the team will be down on my side of the World with the Bay crits and then the NZ cycle classic (stage race).”

“I’ll take the races one at a time but I would love to go well at both of these but I am also very excited to race the UK crit series. John has made it very clear that they are no walk in the park so I hope I can do something special there and of course, the Olympics is the big one”.
