Team owner Bradley Wiggins won the race in 2011 before the London Olympics and his famous Tour de France victory. The team will be joined on the gruelling Beaumont Trophy circuit by top British and European cycling teams.

The Beaumont Trophy is part of the Cyclone Festival of Cycling weekend. It includes four cycling events for everyone – from beginners to pros – over three days from June 17 to 19. 2016 is the tenth anniversary of the weekend.

The weekend begins with the Virgin Money Tyne 6 Bridges family rides on the evening of Friday June on the banks of the Tyne. Then, thousands of riders will take on 34, 64, 90 and 106 mile rides in the Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge Rides on Saturday June 18 starting from the Falcons’ Kingston Park ground.

On Sunday June 19, the country’s top women riders will take on the Curlew Cup race from Stamfordham before the men take to the same course for the Beaumont Trophy.

One of the great features of the weekend is that Curlew Cup and Beaumont Trophy riders often train on the course the day before, sharing the roads with riders of all sorts taking part in the Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge rides.

Full details of the WIGGINS team riding the Beaumont Trophy will be confirmed nearer to the race. To find out more about the Cyclone Festival of Cycling and to stay up to date visit www.cyclonecycling.com, like Cyclone Cycling on Facebook or follow @CycloneFestival on Twitter and Instagram.
