Rider Chat: Rebecca Carter Q & A

1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Rebecca: The start of the season for me will be the last weekend of March with either a local league race or with the team in Belgium!

2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Rebecca: The Lincoln GP is a key race that the whole team are excited about. WNT are the main sponsors and it’s our managements ‘home’ race so I’d like to go well there. After the nationals last year, I’m pretty excited to ride the course again. Otherwise, I’m looking forward to targeting European races with the team. I did a couple of races in Belgium last year and absolutely loved them but it will be a big learning curve for me at the same time.

3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Rebecca: As I’m writing this, I’m sitting in Calpe, Spain whilst out here for a few days training. When I’m at home, I do a mix of road miles with top end efforts starting to be introduced now that the season isn’t far away. We’ve also got team camp in March so I’ll be able to get some more warmer miles in, something I love!

4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Rebecca: My Nespresso Machine! You cannot beat a quick espresso before a ride. I also got a bike stand, possibly the most useful pressie! I’ve got no excuses now.

5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Rebecca: Wrap up and get wet… We’ve got some great team kit to keep us warm in all elements (The Le Col Team Issue Thermal Jersey being my favourite) and I’ve always been one to love being outside. As much as I hate to say it, mudguards really have been a life saver this winter, at least when it stops raining, you know you won’t get the spray and still get just as wet.

6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Rebecca: If I’m honest, I’m not the best at knowing all world races but I’d be quite happy just to ride a UCI stage race on the continent.

7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Rebecca: Cashew Nakd Bars and Homemade energy balls!

8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Rebecca: Anything that has a fast tempo and lots of bass …

9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Rebecca: Normal rim brakes – I love jumping on the XC bike and having my discs but for some reason I feel like they belong there and shouldn’t be mixed.

10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Rebecca: We get our race bikes at the beginning of February which is pretty exciting as the S-Works we had last year were amazing. Hope are partners of the team again this year so we’ll be riding their wheels which handle perfectly.
