1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Billy: I’m starting early this year as I’ve got a little boy due in April so I’m getting some races in before backing off and just training for a bit. First race will be a local tt either at the end of February or very early March

2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Billy: In 2016, I want to improve on my result in the national 100 (9th in my first ever 100 last year). I really want to target some team prizes with the new team Bottrill that I’ve been very lucky to be part of. I also need to try and get my PBs down a lot as well as they are a few years old now and no way reflect the rides I can do.

3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Billy: Intervals have always been apart of training and I’m in a hard block at the moment. The legs are really feeling it but I’m feeling great (but sore!)

4. Do you train on a road bike or TT bike?
Billy: I try and mix my time between the time trial and road bike. I have an old TT frame in the garage set up and Giant UK are very kindly loaning me a Giant Trinity Advanced to use so I will be able to spend a lot more time training on that.

5. What is your favourite distance and why?
Billy: My favourite distance I would of normally said is 10 or 25 but I’m really enjoying the challenge of a 50 or 100. It’s just more of a battle of pacing and focus.

6. What is your favourite course in the country and why?
Billy: The A50/6 – the fastest way to complete 50 miles once you get over the concrete mountain that is.

7. You’re doing a ’10’ – do you take a bidon on the bike and if so, what’s your drink of choice when racing?
Billy: Not for a 10 but I’ve been using the secret training products for longer races as its easy on my stomach and gives me what I need to keep going

8. What is your weapon (bike) of choice for 2016?
Billy: I’m lucky as part of team Bottrill to be riding the new Giant Trinity TT bike which looks a missile. I just hope I can do it justice!

9. What is the key to going fast for you?
Billy: Confidence. I talked myself out of results last year as my confidence had then taken a battering. You can see the riders who are confident on race day and it usually shows in the results.

10. Finally, if you could change one thing about the way time trials are organised, what it would be (ie, closed roads, etc)
Billy: Closed roads would be great but unfortunately I can’t see it happening. More internet entry would be good but I think the fact that time trialling is run mainly by volunteers it’s very hard to question how things are organised. It’s good to see a lot of organisers using social media etc to promote races.
