Finding out about it the morning of the race when some other British riders were talking about it, Raleigh GAC rider George Pym decided to race a local event in Mallorca and went out and won it solo!

The race was originally supposed to be 100k says George but one of the police motos crashed half way through so the event was black flagged. When racing resumed, the distance was cut to around 80 kilometres (50 miles)

“Quite a short one!” says George who was out in Mallorca for a week for training. The first race of a season for any rider can be venturing into the unknown form wise but George admits that the legs were pretty good actually.

“The race was aggressive” explained George. “Fairly similar style to the UK actually. Just attacking until the right move sticks. Once we were away, it was pretty comfortable for me. The guys (five others in the break) started attacking at about 3k out”.

“I sort of knew I had it then because they weren’t particularly strong attacks. At about 1k out, there was another attack that I followed and then went over the top to then solo on to the finish”.
