Q & A – Alex Eason (Chelmer CC)

1. What will be your first time trial for 2016 and why that one to kick off the season?
Alex: I’m going to get going with the ECCA 25 on the E91/25 on Good Friday. It doesn’t get much bigger than that and a good number from the Chelmer will most likely be riding so should be fun.

2. What time trials will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Alex: The target hasn’t changed for the last few years – always ride to win. I’ve never managed it yet but there’s always a first time for everything.

3. What phase of the training schedule are you – base miles or intervals?
Alex: Base miles for me. An old mentor always said ‘you only get out what you put in’ and for me that means getting out there and putting in the miles.

4. Do you train on a road bike or TT bike?
Alex: Road bike on the road, TT bike on the turbo. There’s no chance of my TT bike going out on the Essex lanes in winter – forget it.

5. What is your favourite distance and why?
Alex: All of them.

6. What is your favourite course in the country and why?
Alex: E9/25 – it’s my local course and the start is usually closer to my house than the HQ. Means I can have a lie in compared to other courses.

7. You’re doing a ’10’ – do you take a bidon on the bike and if so, what’s your drink of choice when racing?
Alex: No chance, it’s not a club run. Bottles typically for anything 50 miles and above.

8. What is your weapon (bike) of choice for 2016? (spec of machine please)
Alex: Cervelo P3, Shimano Di2, Zipp 900 and an 808.

9. What is the key to going fast for you?
Alex: ‘More is more’ as my old mentor used to say. There’s no short cut out there and you’ve got to put it in.

10: Finally, if you could change one thing about the way time trials are organised, what it would be (ie, closed roads, etc)
Alex: Get rid of fixed distances and actually have people racing against each other rather than chasing times!
