News: All Go for Junior Tour of Wales

Entries are coming in thick and fast for the RIS Junior Tour of Wales on the August Bank Holiday weekend (27th, 28th, 29th August).

Press Release: Riders, if you’re thinking about riding the RIS Junior Tour of Wales you need to get your entries in soon to make sure you are one of the 100 riders taking the start on the August Bank Holiday weekend (27th, 28th, 29th August). The race has been ridden by many great riders when they were juniors.  Mark Cavendish, Charly Wegelius, David Millar, Ben Swift, Peter Kennaugh, Sam Harrison and  Geraint Thomas have all taken part in the Junior Tour of Wales. Welsh rider, Geraint Thomas MBE, is now Patron of the race.

Geraint said: “The Junior Tour of Wales is for me the biggest junior race on the domestic calendar. I really enjoy racing on home roads! It has terrain to test every type of rider of the 5 stages making for some great racing.  I always wanted to win it but could only manage second.  Hopefully we can have a Welsh winner very soon.”

The race organiser, Talbot Thrush said:  “This is a fantastic race which has helped launch numerous cycling careers and we are very proud to have Wales most successful cyclist as our race Patron. With the race in its 31st year, it continues to enjoy the support of long standing local sponsors R.I.S. Insulation and Blaenau Gwent Council. The race continues to grow in popularity and prestige.  This year we already have two teams from France entered and a rider from the U.S.A.”
