Report: Royal London 360 Isle of Man’s Youth League

An overcast sky and strong cross winds failed to deter the 297 competitors who turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 14 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man’s weekly youth league.

Alexander Galloway continued his winning ways in the novices class, surging ahead of the field to bag his third win in a row. Peter Lloyd was a distant second and Jemma Quayle a safe third ahead of Archie Dunn, Matthew Gledhill and Kate Morris, who all came in separately for fourth fifth and sixth places respectively. Joseph Corlett edged out Aoife Hartley for seventh and Sophie Keen was too fast for Eddy Dillon and Rubi Skillen in the dash for ninth. Alec Sorby was 12th and Belinda Dennett held off chasers Matty Valerga, Maria Moore, Lennon Moore and Myles Le Geyt to claim 13th. Freddie Quilliam, Lula Thomas and Izzy Craig completed the top twenty leader board.

In the born 2006 & later age group Zachary Dowson attacked from the gun, taking the chequered flag well clear of Corey Peters, who pipped Ivan Sorby for the runners-up spot. David Sargent overcame Cian Jackson for fourth and Kazu Senior led Drystan Sewell in for sixth. Harry Fox beat Edward Marsh and Peter Cope to the line for eighth, while Corbin Stewart got the better of leading girl Libbie Thompson and Alfie Swales in the battle for 11th.

Notching up his tenth win of the series, Harry Kneen was too strong for Niall Colquitt in the sprint finish that decided the outcome of the born 2005 event. Oliver Corkish got away from Mairi Harrison on the last lap to grab the final place on the podium and Nathan Cannell eased ahead of James Scott and Jacob O’Boyle for fifth. Chloe Dillon broke free from the main chasing group to snatch eighth, with Frank Kinnish spearheading the ensuing charge for ninth.

Dillon Dowson dropped breakaway partner Oliver Harrison in the closing stages of the born 2004 race and time trialed to a comfortable victory. Cameron Dudley outsprinted his twin brother Joshua for third and Billy Kennedy held off Adam Price in the fight for fifth. Joshua Kelly outgunned Daniel Keen and James Devereau for seventh and Callum Crellin came from behind to take tenth ahead of Mia Worthington, Jack Sowerby and impressive newcomer Megan Boardman.

An increase in pace on the penultimate lap gave Percy Hampton a clear win in the born 2003 category. Jake Wilson kept the fast finishing duo of Jonty Bregazzi and Matthew Black at bay for second, while Zac Walker did well to fend off Thomas Skillicorn and Jack Christian in the gallop for fifth. Ramsey’s Tyler Hannay led Ryan Quirk home for eighth and Matthew Cooil got the verdict over Thomas Young in the dash for tenth. Darcy Cain took the girls’ prize in 18th spot.

Making his intentions clear from the start, Will Corkill went from the gun in the born 2002 class and stayed clear to the finish for a well deserved win. Aaron Lund nearly caught the leader on the finishing straight but just ran out of road and had to settle for second place. James Harrison rode Blae Cain and Nicholas Kissack off his wheel to grab third, with Joshua Mills heading Louis Dean and Ethan Quirk over the line to round off the top six.

Juan Kneen outsprinted Max Walker, Adam Scarffe and Emma Draper to earn maximum points in the born 2001 event and Matthew Draper was too strong for fellow frontrunners Adam Kelly, Tara Ferguson, Lucas Mudie and Abby Quirk at the finish of the born 2000 & earlier grouping.

In the under 10 racing bikes Tosh Teare escaped on the first lap and was never seriously challenged on the way to scoring a brilliant solo victory. Max Walker pipped Adam Scarffe for second and Percy Hampton beat Aaron Lund in the bunch sprint for fourth. Emily Bridson was the top girl in tenth position.

After splitting the field with some aggressive riding, William Draper outsprinted fellow protagonist Conor Davies for the top slot in the under 12 racing bikes. Thomas Bostock was a solid second ahead of Callum Clague and Liam McCann, with Kaitlin Slack the best girl in 11th spot.

The under 16 racing bikes set off at a fast pace as riders made several early but ultimately unsuccessful bids for glory. Jamie Dudley, Josh Knights and Nick Corlett eventually got away to contest the finish where Dudley took the sprint from Knights, with Corlett just behind in third. Matthew Davies won the bunch sprint for fourth and Anna Christian was the first girl in tenth position.
