Nicky Barfoot & Marc Barfoot (Utag-Yamaha) win the Bournemouth & District Womens CA 2up Two up Team Time Trial 10
Eamonn Deane writes … Fondly referred to by organiser Claire Newman (Crabwood CC) as the “Tarts 2 UP†the Bournemouth & District Women’s CA 2UP TTT is always a keenly contested affair. The gentlemen pace their lady partners and rivalry is fierce. The P303, south of Ringwood in Hampshire is known locally as the rumble strip and is an honest test. Nicky Barfoot & Marc Barfoot (Utag-Yamaha) recorded 25.42 for an 8 second winning margin over Southampton Road Club pair, Jo Hayley & Ian Woodhouse, 25.50.
Larraine & Colin White (Bournemouth Jubilee) rode very smoothly to 3rd place a further 10 secs back. Pre race favourites and runners up last year, Mandy Hibberd & Jonathan Hobby (North Hampshire RC) punctured and failed to record a time. Cups of tea brewed up at the side of the road added a nostalgic feel to this enduring event, harking back perhaps to a golden era of British cycling.
However, at the sharp end of the race, no quarter is asked or given, aero helmets, carbon frames & disc wheels keep the event bang up to date! Post Race, tea and cake was followed by the prize giving and with three former national 12 hour champions on hand, Claire had no problem finding someone to present the awards!
