Royal London 360 Youth Cycling League – Round 19 – Tuesday, 23rd August 2011

Despite the travelling difficulties caused by the road closures for the Manx Grand Prix motorcycle races, there was another good turnout of 229 competitors at the NSC last Tuesday night for the 19th and penultimate round of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man’s youth league.

Alexander Galloway opened the proceedings with a clear win in the novices class. Peter Lloyd was a safe second and leading girl Rebecca Walmsley pipped Sydney Ann Patterson in the dash for third. Liam Bedford led Kate Morris, Eddy Dillon and Aoife Hartley home for fifth, while Freddie Griffin beat Rebecca Parker and Rubi Skillen to the line for ninth.

In the born 2006 & later category Corey Peters went from the gun, leaving the rest of the field in his wheel tracks to fight over the minor placings. Ivan Sorby and Ryan Edwards filled the final two slots on the podium and Harry Callin got the verdict over Samuel Devereau, Edward Marsh, Peter Cope and Alfie Swales in the battle for fourth. Charlie Convery took the bunch sprint for ninth, with Hollie Palmer grabbing the girls’ prize in 12th spot.

Niall Colquitt got away from a five-strong leading group to bag maximum points for a fifth time in the born 2005 event. Fourteen times winner Harry Kneen outgunned Jacob O’Boyle, Zachary Dowson and Mairi Harrison to salvage second and Chloe Dillon overcame James Scott, Oliver Sykes and Frank Kinnish in the gallop for sixth. Charlie Cowin held off chasers Tom Corrin, Luca Moretta and Matthew Young to round off the top ten.

Following a closely contested sprint finish, breakaway companions Cameron Dudley and Oliver Harrison were awarded joint first place in the born 2004 class. Joshua Dudley got the better of Daniel Keen, Adam Price and Billy Kennedy in the rush for third and relative newcomer Joshua Leece did well to snatch seventh from James Devereau. Ninth place went to Jack Sowerby and Megan Boardman was the first girl in a very good tenth place.

Jonty Bregazzi scored his second success of the season in the born 2003 age group, outsprinting Matthew Black, Jack Christian, Zac Walker and Dillon Dowson in the final gallop for the chequered flag. Jack Collister took sixth ahead of Jamie Gelling and Thomas Young.

In the born 2002 race Percy Hampton powered away from the field to score an impressive solo victory. James Harrison got the better of Corrin Leeming and Nicholas Kissack in the battle for second, with top girl Shellan Leeming a lonely fifth.

Adam Scarffe took the honours in the poorly supported born 2001 race, while Adam Kelly was too strong for Alex Cain Ben Christian and Tara Ferguson in the sprint at the end of the born 2000 & earlier grouping.

In the under 10 racing bikes Adam Scarffe outsprinted ten fellow front-runners to secure his second win of the night. Conor Gelling pipped Percy Hampton for second and Emily Bridson took the girls’ award in seventh spot. A last lap attack gave Conor Davies a well deserved victory in the under 12 racing bikes and Jamie Dudley edged out breakaway partner Josh Knights for his eighth win in the under 16’s. Matthew Davies took the sprint for third and the in- form Sophie Black was the first girl in ninth place.
