BMC Racing Team’s Alexander Kristoff sprinted to a runner-up finish to Guillaume Blot (Bretagne Schuller) Sunday at the Grand Prix de Fourmies to register his fourth top three result since winning the Norwegian national road championship in June.
Kristoff said he felt strong throughout the 200 kilometer race that was run in sometimes rainy and cooler conditions. “Michael Schär came to help me at the end, but we did not get a good position so with one kilometer to go I went by myself,” Kristoff said. “I had to take a little bit of wind and I made the front with 300 meters to go when I saw an opening.”
“But I was a little bit too far out and the last 150 meters was a real fight just to keep second place. But I’m happy with second.” BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said the team performed well despite many obstacles. “It was a difficult day, with lots of flats and a minor crash with Simon Zahner,” he said. “But all the guys did a great job and worked well together.”
