Report: Waldrons/ West Midland /Cyclocross League

Jacob James writes…. Lee Williams (Wiggle) took the spoils at the opening round of the Waldrons/ West Midland /Cyclocross league in fine style, winning by a convincing margin over 2nd placed finisher, Matt Barratt (CycleShack/ Forme Coaching). Finishing behind the top two was Lee Westwood (CycleShack/ Forme Coaching). Williams and Barratt took an early lead together before splitting mid-race to allow Williams to go on and take the win.

In the Junior race, it was Alex Welburn (CycleShack/ Forme Coaching) who took the race win ahead of Halesown A&CC’s Jacob James followed by James Plant of Wyre Forest CC. Ian Wright (CycleShack/ Forme Coaching) who rode a mountain bike, took the Vet 50+ category ahead of Pete Harris of Pearce Cycles.

The Vets 40+ race was hotly contested by two local legends, Phil Blacker and Steve Knight (Both Team Jewson) whilst the third member of the Jewson team, Mark James was riding with them, later had a puncture, putting him out of contention. The woman’s race included current Junior National Champion, Hannah Payton (Kinesis Morvelo) who took the 1st prize ahead of Sarah Reynolds, who were both putting in fast lap times, close to those of the Juniors/Vets.

The youth race saw Solihul CC perform strong with Danny Fox taking the win ahead of teammate Jack Ravenscroft. Both led from the gun, swapping the lead throughout the race but it was Danny who accelerated ahead of Jack to take the top spot.
