Report: Ciclos Uno LVRC ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ Series

The sixth and final event in the Ciclos Uno Last of the Summer Wine Series was held at the Redbridge Cycling Centre on Sunday 2 October

A total of 40 riders were on the start line for the two age related races with the events being raced on the lower circuit over 1 hour plus 5 laps for the A/B/C/D categories and 1 hour plus 3 laps for the E/F/G/H categories.

The race for Categories A/B/C/D (40 – 59yrs) attracted 26 starters. During the race, there were many attempts by small groups to get away from the main bunch but they were all pulled back. With 15 minutes to go plus the 5 final laps, a group of eight riders got clear and opened up a gap which they maintained to the finish when Martin Meades (Ciclos Uno) outsprinted his teammate Craig Stevens to take the honours with Ian Watson (Finchley) in third place. The group of eight had a lead of 20 seconds over two chasers with the remains of the main bunch a further 10 seconds back.

Despite Martin Meades win, his 5 points was not enough to overtake his teammate Craig Stevens who took first place in the series overall in ‘B’ Category. Martin was only able to take equal second along with Rob Windsor (ELV).
