Team News: Hargroves Cycles

More victories for riders in the Hargroves Cycles team over the past few weeks

National Trophy Cyclo-Cross Round 2
The National Trophy moved to Leicester for round 2 at the Leicester Leys Leisure Centre. It was Jody Crawforth (Hargroves Cycles) who got the better start but was under pressure from the off from Jelie Brakman and Paul Oldham. Unfortunately Jody Crawforth (Hargroves Cycles) last year’s series winner suffered by mechanical problems and needed a change of bike and drifted back into a battle for 3rd place between two more Belgium riders. Jody Crawforth (Hargroves Cycles) managed to get back into a rythum and was able to shake the competition and motor home to 3rd place. Steve James (Hargroves Cycles) remains the leading under 23’s rider in the trophy series with his finish position in this race of 8th.

In the under-14 boys race, Daniel Tullet (Hargroves Cycles) went from the gun and simply rode away from his rivals, while in the Junior race Matt Hargroves (Hargroves Cycles) had a challenging time and finished 7th.

Superprestige Zonhoven 2011 (Belgium)
There was great result for Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles) who rode a clean race in which he finished 18th in this international elite race. Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles) was the only British rider to finish in the top 30. Zonhoven is the second round of the Super Prestige Series and Ians 18th place will push him further up the grid for the 3rd round in Hamme-Zogge on 13th November.  Ians next race is the infamous GVA Koppenberg Cross in Belgium on the 1st November.

Rapha Supercross R3 – Great Team performance coming Overall 3rd
In a close positioned series, the finale was going to be all about the head-to-head between Jody Crawforth (Hargroves Cycles) and nearest rival Paul Oldham. The Hope rider was not going to allow a sprint finish after Jody Crawforth had the legs to secure the win in the previous encounter. So, Paul Oldham led from the start on this occasion and Jody Crawforth had to settle for second place. In this new major race series, what a fantastic team performance finishing 3rd overall behind Scott UK and the overall winner Hope Technology.

Wessex League R4 – Prospect Park, Reading
There was a fast start to the junior race by Matt Woods (Hargroves Cycles) and Luke Cowley riding his first race in the Wessex league this season. Once the riders had suffled themselves out it was Matt Woods (Hargroves Cycles) at the front. On the second lap, Matt Woods opened a gap of 20 seconds and on the third lap it was stretched to 56 seconds to take the win. In the Youth race, at the start, the early leader was Harvey Lowe who was able to dominate the race by extending his lead lap by lap over Robbie Bolwell. With Harvey Lowe (Hargroves Cycles) posting the fastest lap of the race 4mins 20 seconds he was able to take control and finish the race in front by 42 seconds.

Wessex League R5 – Oxford Cross
In difficult conditions due to a few minutes of rain prior to the race starting, the grass became very slippery and caught out a number of riders. Matt Wood (Hargroves Cycles) showed as the early leader and continued to build upon that lead in front of the veteran rider Will Girvan to take the win.
