Blog: Time to get organised for the Season Ahead

By Oliver Wright – The last couple of weeks have seen a flurry of activity, not all bike riding related….

I’m still getting plenty of base sessions done, although a combination of extra work and family related activities mean that I’m getting rather over familiar with the Turbo.

It does mean I’ve managed to fit regular sessions in and I’ve avoided any of the really icy weather, so haven’t fallen off or been ill. (Fingers crossed that it stays that way!) It also means that I’m now very familiar with a couple of the Sufferfest films. Roll on the better weather!

I seem to have done quite a bit of organizing over the last few weeks too. First up was a track session at Manchester. It’s surprisingly easy to sort out and makes for a great evening. Riding the boards is really good fun and just what is needed for flagging motivation. Plenty of skills, endurance and speed all topped off with a group kebab session on the way home!

I’ve also sorted out my first entries for the coming season and joined a team. Vivelo Bikes/Inverse Cyclaim Racing Team have been just fantastic. I’m really looking forward to being part of the team and showing their colours at the sharp end of some races.

Also on the organizational front, I’m running a couple of Audax events in March. (Spring in the Peak: March 17th from Hathersage).  I’ve been doing these for a couple of years now and see it as my way of putting something back into the sport. They are both really good routes on quiet lanes with plenty of climbing and good cafes.

If you fancy giving one a go, have a look at the Audax website. It starts to get busy about now with entries coming in and everything needing to be sorted out. It’s worth it though to see new riders getting out and everyone feeling a sense of achievement at finishing a really challenging route.

Now all I need to do is get on with my own riding so I’m totally ready for my first race on 10th March. Wish me luck.
