Ben Peacock wins the Corrieri Classic 10 mile time trial in Scotland on the weekend. Elaine Lowden was the first female.

Ben Peacock of Paisley Velo won Stirling Bike Club’s Corrieri’s Classic 10 mile Time Trial on Sunday 18th March.
It was a sunny, dry morning with little wind, but slightly cold (with aerodynamics being everything in time trialling, warmer, thinner air leads to faster times). Good conditions for the time of year, for the first open ‘10’ of the Scottish racing season.  100 competitors raced against the clock over the out-and-back course on the A811, that has been used for cycle racing for several years.
Veteran Iain Grant of Dooleys Cycles RT posted the early benchmark with a time of 21 minutes 35 seconds. He finished 5th fastest overall.  Scottish 10 mile champion Arthur Doyle, of Dooley’s RT, who won the event the past two years could not retain his crown. Although 21 minutes 14 is very fast, it was not enough. He placed third with Peter Ettles of Sandy Wallace Cycles 2nd in 21:04 and Ben Peacock of Paisley Velo RT the only rider to go under 21 minutes winning in 20:34.
First female was Elaine Lowden of Glasgow Wheelers CC in 25:12, the fastest Vet over 60 was Steve Beech in 24:42 and fastest Vet over 70 was Jocky Johnstone in 25:12. The youngest rider in the race, U16 youth Zak Loney posted 24:52, a time that saw him beat some 50 other competitors.
Local interest was high with Dunblane’s Robin Wilkins of Velo Ecosse finishing 7th in 21:35 and Ian King, riding for Velocity 44 posting 22 minutes 32 seconds. Top finisher for the host club was Graeme Hay, sixteenth fastest in 23:06.
At the presentation at Cambusbarron Social club, the prize money was sponsored by Corrieri’s Café. The success of the event was augmented by Stirling Bike Club’s new Wing Banner signage – recently supplied via James Callander & Son, a timber merchant and sawmill based in Falkirk.
Stirling’s next event is the Boomerang 2-up time trial in May.
