Matt Bottrill made the most of the trip to South Wales winning the VTTA South Wales 25 with Drag2Zero smashing the Team Comp Record with a combined team time of 2:23:46

Bottrill  rides to new personal best for 25 miles; Drag2zero race team smash team competition record by 3 minutes!
On a cold but dry Sunday morning in South Wales, Matthew Bottrill and the www.Drag2zero.co.uk race team travelled to South Wales to compete in a 25 mile time trial. They had one intention and that was breaking the team 25 mile team competition record, which was set by Bottrill’s old team 2.27.45 – based on three riders time. Bottrill’s own personal target was the breaking of the individual record of 45.54 set by Dave McCann.
With the cold air, the atmosphere around the hedquaters would suggest that it was not going to be a fast day but with Bottrill in good form and building up towards the National championships in seven weeks time, the mood was a determind one!
With Bottrill’s team mates having set great times of 48.07 (Mark Holton), 48.52 (Derek Parkinson) and Jeff Jones (49.46), the questions was could Bottrill get close to the competition record? Leaving the start at 12pm, Bottrill was on a mission and was firing down the home straight aboard his Giant Trinity SL Time trail machine, equipped with his Smart Enve 8.9 front wheel and selecting Bont Crono aero shoes (so fast the UCI banned them!).
One of the upgrade on the bike was a Ultimate Ceramic bearings in the bottom bracket and jockey wheels kindly supplied by Andy at www.amorecycles.com. Hitting a top speed of 50mph on the outward leg and averaging 34 mph to the turn, Bottrill was well on for the record but a stiff head wind and the cold weather, which meant low air pressure and Bottrill stopped the clock in an amazing 46.47 for a 32.1mph average speed. The 4th fastest time ever ridden by an individual in the United Kingdom. With the back up from his teams mates Drag2zero, they also smashed the team record by over 3 minutes.
Asked about his great day out Bottrill replied “Well that went pretty good!! I can say my form is coming along nicely. With the improvement’s in equipment and my determination, I think breaking the record is very possible. But the main target and focus for the season is the National 25 (Blue ribbon event in British cycling). I just want to say a big thank you to all my family, team mates, sponsors and supporters that make days like this possible.
