Stage 1 with the start and finish in Vannes was a hard epic stage, in very wet and extremely windy conditions. A six man break including Endura Racing’s Rob Partridge got away early on and from that, the British rider started collecting mountain points so he had something to take away from the stage.

After the six-man break was caught at about 25 miles from the finish, the attacks continued to flow and because of the wind, the peloton was splitting into different echelons. Eventually a 10 man group sprinted it out for the win 13 seconds ahead of the peloton which was only 40 riders strong with many other groups down the road.

The first Brit across the line was Erick Rowsell, 13 seconds down on the winner, while Rob Partridge was only 20 seconds down after a long time out front. Tomorrow’s stage goes from Vannes to Saint-Méen-le-Grand, the birth place of former Tour de France winner Louison Bobet. The Tour de Bretagne finishes on May 1st.
