Peter Waghorn writes … A good evenings racing at the Welwyn Track League apart from a crash just after the start of the senior group A 10 lap Block Pursuit – three riders came – the worst injury being to Nigel Stephens with a broken collar bone plus broken ribs. Tony Gibb won the 10 lap scratch plus a second in the re-run of the Block Pursuit losing out to Lewis Atkins.

In the Senior B group honours were spread around in some well contested events – the scratch group in the 10 lap Handicap finally reeled in the leaders with a lap to go and Simon Howes used his experience to lead in the sprinters.
The closing 10 mile whittled the field down to around a dozen riders with three laps to go – Simon Hime attacked alone with two laps remaining and the field spent a lap watching each other leaving Simon to establish a good lead which he held to the finish to score a well deserved victory– Gibb led the bunch in and the camera was needed to sort out the next three riders with third spot going to Joe Fry by a tyre width

Louis Modell making a rare appearance at Welwyn was in good form in the Youth A events but Luke Morgan pressed him hard in all 4 races. The Youth B/C produced a good battle between Cameron Gutteridge and Connor Woodford with the latter still leading the series overall.

Top performance in the small group of C/D/E riders was the one lap sprint win by the diminutive Kye Lewis who outsprinted his two opponents with an impressive burst of speed up the home straight.
