A total of 205 competitors turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for the 19th and penultimate round of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man’s youth league. The heavy showers that swept across the island during the afternoon abated long enough for the full race programme to be completed in dry conditions.

In the novices class Sydney-Ella Patterson came from behind to pip Jessica Rich for the honours. Colby Newbold was a safe third and Summer Peters got the better of Chloe Hampson in the battle for fourth. Caitlyn Hampson and Mia Walmsley trailed in separately to grab sixth and seventh, with Ryan Batty outsprinting Ella Hurt for eighth. Sophie Hindson led newcomer John Evans home to round off the top ten.

Cian Howard completed a hat-trick of wins in the born 2007 & later category, holding off a strong challenge from Orry Lund in the final dash for the line. Myles Le Geyt edged out Archie Dunn for third and series leader Sam Cowin came home alone for a solid fifth. T.J.Teare claimed sixth ahead of the main chasing pack spearheaded by Rio Kelly and leading girl Ellana Skillan in seventh and eighth places. Zack Bellhouse and Edward Field completed the top ten.

Attacking from the gun, Ivan Sorby time trialed to a comfortable victory in the born 2006 age group. Corey Peters stayed clear of the fast closing Kazu Senior to secure the runners-up spot and Owen Collins beat Harry Corkish in the dash for fourth. Samuel Devereau overcame Harry Eyres, Charlie Convery and Tomas Flowers in the fight for sixth, while Lucy Field forged ahead of Grace Gawne to take the girls’ prize in 13th position.

Niall Colquitt rode clear of breakaway companions Harry Kneen and Oliver Sykes to bag maximum points in the born 2005 event. Kneen outsprinted Sykes for second and Oliver Corkish kept top girl Mairi Harrison at bay to take fourth. Cormac Ewan ousted Ella Griffin for sixth and Teddy Dunn rode away from James Scott for eighth . Ben Clarke filled the remaining slot on the top ten leader board.

In the born 2004 race Zac Walker produced a well judged sprint to overcome Cameron Dudley in the rush for the chequered flag. Nathan Slack overtook Joshua Dudley in the closing stages to snatch third and James Devereau fought off Owen Chestnut and Nancy Wheeler in the hotly contested gallop for fifth. Annabel Corkill was a safe eighth and Ben Boyle took ninth ahead of Mia Warren.

Jake Wilson had the edge on Matthew Cooil and Tyler Hannay in the tussle for the number one spot in the born 2003 class. Thomas Skillicorn, who was dropped by the leading trio on the final lap, held onto fourth place after being caught by Matthew Black. Peel’s Ryan Quirk was a lonely sixth and Ryan Colquitt outpaced Freddie Ralston, Emily Kinley and Seth Coole for seventh.

Percy Hampton, who was riding up a class and did not count in the points tally, headed Corrin Leeming, Will Corkill, Aaron Lund and James Harrison over the line to win the born 2002 three lapper. Shellan Leeming, who was dropped by the frontrunners on the second lap, was a safe sixth.

Lucas Mudie was too strong for Kaitlin Slack and Tara Ferguson in the tussle for the top slot in born 2001 & earlier grouping. Lewis Parker and Adam Kelly lost contact with the leaders on the penultimate lap, salvaging fourth and fifth ahead of Joseph Corkish, Callum Bratty and Ben Cunningham.

In the under 10 racing bikes James Harrison got the verdict in six-strong sprint finish. Percy Hampton and Zac Walker were second and third followed by Will Corkill, Charlie Moss (first girl) and Aaron Lund, while further down the field recent converts to “droppies” racing Niall Colquitt, Harry Kneen and Josh Kelly all rode well to finish 11th, 16th and 18th respectively. The under 12’s race also ended in a bunch gallop with Thomas Bostock pipping William Draper for first place. Tosh Teare took third ahead of Max Walker, Conor Gelling, Adam Scarffe and Lewis Parker. Emily Bridson was the top girl in ninth spot.

Leon Mazzone produced the performance of the night in the under 16 racing bikes. Escaping as early as the third of fifeteen laps, he powered his way to a brilliant and well deserved solo victory. A chasing group of seven riders made several determined efforts to reel him in, but failed to bridge the ever increasing gap and were left behind to fight over the minor placings, with Jamie Dudley taking the sprint for second from Matthew Davies, Matthew Bostock, Joseph Haddock, Owen Dudley, Michael Moss and U/14 rider Conor Davies, who did well to stay with the fast moving leaders. Will Quirk was a good ninth and Holly Black the best girl in 13th place.
