Report -Â Ian Bibby Wins Cycle Show SuperCrit
The first ever Cycle Show SuperCrit Nocturne was won by Endura Racing’s Ian Bibby who was part of the Tour of Britain winning team with Jon Locke. Bibby narrowly beat Yodel Sprints winner from the Tour of Britain, Pete Williams in a two up sprint.

The inaugural SuperCrit Nocturne from the organisers of the Halfords Tour Series and Tour of Britain, was held on Saturday afternoon outside of the halls for the show and had on the start line a very impressive field of well over 60 riders.
Preceded by a Youth race won by Harry Crewe of Derby Mercury, the SuperCrit started in fading light and the riders were soon racing in the dark in front of a sizable crowd. With lot of attacks, the racing was certainly fast and in the sprints for cases of wine, Aussie Richard Lang won the first two and the overall while Graham Briggs and Russell Downing won the others.
The longer the racing went on, the more the breaks started to appear until a group of four escaped with Russell Downing. With only two to go though, they were joined by a further three riders and that was the signal for Pete Williams to attack.
Endura Racing’s Russell Downing leads Tobyn Horton (Raleigh-GAC), Chris Opie (UK Youth) and Pete Williams (Node 4) in the late break
Ian Bibby saw it and was right on it and the two drew clear of the rest and it was Bibby who got the better of Williams while Bibby’s teammate Russell Downing was third.
Afterwards, Bibby said “It was a nice and flowing course and I just floated around in the bunch until the little break went away. I then jumped across to it but then Pete jumped away as soon as I got there and I went after him. I caught him with a lap to go and then lead the sprint out and managed to get it. It was a good fast crit.â€
Asked what he is going to do now the road season is over pretty much, he says “I’m going to be doing some cross during the winter. I have entered the first one in Abergavenny in two weeks and will also do the Rapha series. I’ll then have a few weeks off and then do a few more Trophies and then the nationals (Cross champs). I’m going to go for the win at the nationals this year (Ian is a former champion).â€
Ian then went on to say he’s still not got a contract for 2013 after not being taken on by the NetApp team which is co sponsored by Endura in 2013. “I’d like to get in a Conti team and tried to get something sorted but I don’t haven’t anything yet which is disappointing.â€
“It was amazing being in the team with Jon (Locke) and winning the Tour of Britain. After having had a hard few months at the start of the year, it was a good end to the season. It was amazing being in the team with JT winning it. Helping him was easy when we knew he could do it. The team was so strong this year it was doing something just to get selected.â€
Riders line up under the Tour of Britain Gantry for the first ever Supercrit as the light fades.
