Adam Blythe attacked before the cobblestone section of the finish of Binche-Tournai-Binche to take the victory for the BMC Racing Team Tuesday.

Before making his winning move, Blythe relied on teammates Manuel Quinziato and Michael Schär to get a strong lead out as a group of about three dozen riders came to the finish of the 200.3-kilometer race. “Quinzi did his last effort on the little climb before the cobblestone section and kept it in one line and then Michi just went full gas across the cobblestones,” Blythe said.

“I attacked with about 700 meters to go, which was a bit risky, but I gave everything to hold it to the line.” Blythe held off runner-up Adrien Petit (Cofidis, Le Credit en Ligne) and third-place finisher John Degenkolb (Argos-Shimano) to earn his second win of the season, adding to one on the opening stage of Paris-Corrèze in August. “It’s a bit late, but I’ve finally got some good form now,” he said. “It’s nice to win at the end of the season like this.”

BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Rik Verbrugghe said he was pleased with the overall team effort by a roster that was made up many of the same riders who competed in Circuit Franco-Belge last week. “The team rode very well today, just like the whole week at Franco-Belge,” he said. “Today we saw that again.” Verbrugghe said Greg Van Avermaet did not start due to feeling sick after a top 20 finish Saturday in chilly, wet conditions at Il Lombardia. “We hope he is recovered in time for Paris-Tours,” Verbrugghe said of the defending champion for Sunday’s race.
