Men’s Race

There was yet another Trophy win for a Belgian rider as Joeri Hofman (KDL Landbouwkrediet) won round 5 of the National Trophy Series by over two minutes from new series leader Oli Beckingsale (Endura MTB) who beat Paul Oldham (Hope) who was rather ill thanks to a cough that won’t go away but still managed to finish third. Beckingsale now leads Oldham by only two points and the series is going to go down to the wire in Derby.

With riders changing every lap or even every half lap due to the really sticky mud right round the course, Hofman pulled clear of a chase group that included Nick Craig (Scott) who afterwards could not explain how he parked up ten minutes from the end to leave the chasing to Oldham and Grant Ferguson with another Belgian Bart Hoffman coming from way back to finish 5th.

Under 23 rider, Joeri Hofman of Belgium, was in a different league, winning the men’s Elite race by over two minutes from Oli Beckingsale of Endura.

The off camber section was as tough as ever and got very cut up and muddy by the last race.

Lap 1 and Steven James of Hargroves Cycles leads from Oli Beckingsale with  Joeri Hofman back in seventh but once he got to the front, the rode away from the rest.

Many riders tried to bunny hop the boards but some didn’t make it over like this from Kenta Gallagher who did survive face planting the mud.

A lone win for Robinson while the battle for second was very close for most of the race with Carter pulling clear on the closing lap to  beat Crumpton to the second spot. It was Robinson’s fifth straight win.

Darren Atkins increased his lead in the series winning alone ahead of Ian Taylor (2nd) and Andrew Peace (3rd) who had a great scrape for the minor placings well clear of the rest.
