A world-class line-up of track sprinting talent lit up Revolution Series Round 3 at the National Cycling Centre as Rapha Condor JLT stayed out in front in the Elite Championship.

Ed Clancy kept up his incredible form with another couple of race wins for Rapha. German outfit Rudy Project RT kept up their title challenge, while some scintillating sprinting in the feature racing had another sold-out Revolution crowd jumping to their feet throughout the evening.

Watch highlights of Round 3 on ITV4 – 8pm this on Wednesday, and catch up in ITV Player.

Francois Pervis of France took the Revolution Sprint, beating Callum Skinner, and took the Keirin too, the very last event of a superb evening of racing. The Team Sprint belonged to the French too, with the trio of Pervis, Matthew D’Almeida and Julien Palma proving too good for the rest of the field.

In the Elite Championship, Clancy (Rapha Condor JLT) began the night with what’s become a regulation victory in the Flying Lap, maintaining his 100 per cent record in three rounds of the Revolution this season, flying around the track in a time of 13.160. Ross Edgar, making an impressive debut for Team IG Sigma Sport, was second in 13.541 while Marcel Kalz (Rudy Project RT) was third (13.798).

It was more of the same in the second Elite event of the night, Clancy of Rapha Condor JLT collecting another bouquet by triumphing in the Elimination Race. Four-time world champion Franco Marvulli (howies) was second, Jon Mould (howies) third.

Pete Kennaugh of Team Sky, sporting the much talked-about new Rapha gear on its first competitive outing, dominated in the Points Race, winning comfortably before picking out a lucky lady in the crowd with an accurate throw of his winners’ bouquet. He amassed 28 points with victory – Adam Yates of MaxGear Racing was second, winning 15 points and Russell Downing (NetApp Endura) was third with 13 points.

In the Madison Time Trial, Rudy Project RT duo Robert Bengsch and Marcel Kalz produced what commentator Hugh Porter called an ‘unbelievable’ time of 54.922 – equating to an average speed of 65.5kph or just over 40mph – another performance which had the crowd on their feet. Team Sky were second in 57.934, securing 11 points, with Team FACE third, getting 10 points.

Tristan Marguet (Team FACE) won the Scratch Race, the fifth and final Elite Championship event of the night. Rapha lead the way in the Elite Championship after Round 3 with 160 points. Rudy Project RT are second, with 135 points, and Rouleur third with 125.

It was left to Frenchman Pervis to round off a fantastic individual performance by triumphing in the Keirin Final, rounding off a great evening of racing.

REPORT MADISON CHAMPIONSHIPS

L-R: Peter Kennaugh, Adam Blythe, Jon Mould, George Atkins, Jonny McEvoy and Russell Downing

The 2013 British Madison Championship was won by Academy pairing George Atkins and Jon Mould in a three way battle for the medals.

After a steady start, the likes of Mould/Atkins went head to head with Peter Kennaugh and Adam Blythe with NetApp duo Russell Downing and Jonny McEvoy in hot pursuit. Blythe/Kennaugh and Atkins/Mould were the first to gain a lap in an effort that tore the field to shreds and then shortly after Downing and McEvoy to make three teams on the same lap.

Adam Blythe (BMC) keeps an eye on Jon Mould as he throws Peter Kennaugh into the race

These three continued to dominate the race and the battle ground became a drag race in the sprints between Blythe/Kennaugh and Atkins/Mould with the latter getting the better in the sprint with the experience of Blythe/Kennaugh showing in the battle prior to the sprints.

Jon Mould throws in George Atkins in a race where their speed was the key to winning the title.

Downing and McEvoy then threw a spanner in the works by attacking with a few sprints to go and gained half a lap and whilst Blythe/Kennaugh and Atkins/Mould watched each other, the NetApp duo kept the pressure up. Then Kennaugh could wait no more as the next sprint approached and they went for it to signal the end of the lap take by Downing &  McEvoy.

In the end though, with the teams tied on points in the latter stages, it came down to the final sprints where Atkins/Mould not only had the strength to match the road pros Kennaugh and Blythe but also nick the points required to the win the title.
